NEWPORT, R.I. (UCFKnights.com) - For the fourth straight season, UCF head men's golf coach Bryce Wallor has taken his Knights team back to his old stomping grounds. And for the fourth consecutive season, UCF will be bringing a trophy back to Orlando from the Adams Cup of Newport.

Hosted every year by the University of Rhode Island, the tournament was held at the Orchard Course at the Newport National Golf Club. Wallor, a Rhode Island graduate and native of the area, has now enjoyed a happy, victorious homecoming in each of the past four seasons at the Adams Cup.

UCF scorched the course in the first round and then cruised home to the victory over 15 other squads. The Knights were 15-under par as a team in the first round, staking themselves to a huge lead. UCF then put together 4-over and 3-over scores of 292 and 291 in the second and third rounds, posting an 8-under 856. That score bested second-place Bethune-Cookman by 16 strokes. The host school, Rhode Island, finished third and was 48 strokes off UCF's pace.

Greg Eason finished as the runner-up, posting a 5-under score of 211 for the three rounds of the tournament. He carded a 73 (+1) in Tuesday's third and final round. Ricardo Gouveia took third place and was 3-under for the tournament after firing a 72 (E) Tuesday. Linus Vaisanen was one of just four golfers to finish at par or better for the tournament - and three of them were Knights. Vaisanen came in at even par for the tournament after posting a 73 (+1) Tuesday. Rounding out the Knights scoring and the top five was Kyle Wilshire, who finished 2-over for the event after recording a 73 (+1) in the final round.

"We had four players finish in the top five individually this week," Wallor said. "We also had everyone in the starting lineup make a contribution to our team score. This is a strong start to the season for our team. They have certainly worked very hard for their success."

Playing as an individual, Federico Zucchetti was tied for 12th and was the highest-finishing player who was not a member of a team lineup. Zucchetti finished at 8-over for the tournament after Tuesday's round of 75 (+3). Ryan Stovash rounded out the UCF team lineup. He finished the tournament tied for 14th at 9-over, scoring a 77 (+5) in the final round.

The Knights have now won each of their tournaments so far in the 2013-14 season, after coming home victorious from the season-opening Northern Intercollegiate, as well. UCF is back in action again Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the Shoal Creek Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.
