NEWPORT, R.I. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF men's golf team holds a 15-stroke lead after two rounds at the Adams Cup of Newport, being held at the Orchard Course at the Newport National Golf Club.
UCF came out red hot Monday, holding a 26-shot advantage after the first round. Led by Greg Eason's 6-under round of 66, the Knights recorded a 15-under total of 273 in the first round. Ricardo Gouveia carded a 4-under 68 in the opening round, while Linus Vaisanen was 3-under with a 69. Kyle Wilshire rounded out the Knights' first-round scoring with a 2-under 70. Ryan Stovash tallied a 75 (+3) in the first round, while Federico Zucchetti was 2-over (74), playing as an individual.
While UCF came back to the pack a bit in the afternoon's second round, it was not enough to relinquish the Knights' commanding lead. Eason recorded an even-par 72 in the second round to finish 6-under for the day and hold down second place. Gouveia shot a 1-over 73 in the second round and sits in third. Vaisanen, who shot a +2 74 Monday afternoon, is tied for seventh. Wilshire's 75 did not count toward the second-round team score, but he is still tied for ninth. Stovash carded a 73 (+1) Monday afternoon to round out UCF's team scoring for the second round. Zucchetti is tied for 18th after two rounds of playing as an individual, after recording a 75 in the second round.
As a team, the Knights tallied scores of 273 and 292 for an 11-under 565. UCF was the only team to finish below par after two rounds Monday. Bethune-Cookman is in second place at 4-over, while Hartford and Rhode Island are tied for third at 19-over.
The third and final round of the Adams Cup of Newport will tee off Tuesday morning.
