BRYAN, Texas (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF women's golf team wrapped up its season-opening event with a top-three finish Wednesday at the Mo Morial, hosted by Texas A&M at the Traditions Club.
The Knights moved up from a tie for fourth to a third-place finish on day three of the event. UCF posted a team score of 885 for a +21 finish. UCF's three-day totals were 296-300-289. Wednesday's 289 was the second-best round of the event. Kentucky, which finished with a 286 on Wednesday, was the overall champion at +8, while Virginia took runner-up honors at +19.
"Overall, I was pleased with our third-place finish," head coach Emily Marron said. "Our final round showed what they are capable of and we can use that momentum going into Tennessee next week. Mo put herself in contention to win and we had Fanny and Ashley in the mix, too. That added depth to our team is going to really help us this year."
UCF was paced by Monifa Sealy (75-74-71-220), who was +4 for the tournament and tied for 7th place. Her 71 on Wednesday was her first sub-par round of the season. Knights' newcomers Fanny Cnops and Ashley Holder each finished tied for 11th. Cnops carded rounds of 75-75-73 to finish +5. Meanwhile, Holder turned in a third-round 69 to go with a 75 and 77 in the first round to tally her 5-over finish. Her 69 tied for the best round of the tournament.
Kristine Odaiyar rounded out Wednesday's scoring for the team. She scored 71-78-76-231 (+15) to finish tied for 37th. Robyn Doig was also in the team lineup for UCF, carding scores of 71-76-85-232 (+16). Kaitlyn Price represented UCF as an individual and finished 27th (75-72-80-227, +11).
The Knights picked up victories over East Carolina, Texas A&M, Florida State, Texas-San Antonio, Rollins, Elon, Redlands Community College and Texas-Pan American.
