ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - TopDrawerSoccer.com has recognized its picks for the top players in the country and UCF senior defender Marissa Diggs was named to the website's Preseason Best XI Third Team.
An NSCAA Second Team All-American a year ago, Diggs was also tabbed as a Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year and was an All-C-USA First Team pick. The Texas native anchored a back line that posted 15 shutouts and ranked second nationally in goals against average.
Diggs is one of seven starters back from a team that advanced to the second round of the 2012 NCAA Championship and finished the campaign ranked among the nation's top 20.
Under new head coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak, the Knights will start a new era in the American Athletic Conference this year. The Knights will play nine matches at the UCF Soccer Complex, starting with their regular-season home opener at Aug. 30 against Tennessee.
