NEWPORT, R.I. (UCFAthletics.com) - It was a quick morning for UCF at the 2013 American Athletic Conference Media Day Tuesday in Rhode Island. But the Knights still found time to meet with several journalists and speak at the podium at the Hotel Viking before having to leave for Orlando.
More From American Commissioner Mike Aresco
UCF will report Tuesday night on campus as the Black and Gold will get the preseason underway Wednesday with practice No. 1 taking place from 3:20 p.m.-5:30 p.m.
Before the morning kicked off, Head Coach George O'Leary caught up with some national and state writers, while junior quarterback Blake Bortles and senior offensive linemen Jordan McCray and Justin McCray also conducted a few interviews.
The American also released its preseason media poll, with UCF predicted to finish fourth behind Louisville (28 first-place votes), Cincinnati (two first-place votes) and Rutgers.
At 9 a.m., American Commissioner Mike Aresco addressed a packed room, and for more, click on the link above.
Coach O'Leary then took the stage to address Media Day as well as take extra questions from the audience.
"UCF is very happy to be a member of the American and compete at the highest level as far as Division I football is concerned," Coach O'Leary said. "I've been very impressed with the American Conference, the organization and the drive of the commissioner. ... And again I think there's a lot of geography in the future that is going to be looked at, and I think right now the American is in as good of shape as it can be as far as competition is concerned and having the ability to play at the highest level you can play in football."
He then allowed his three players to earn some more attention by getting up on stage as well.
"I think it's awesome for Coach O'Leary to bring me here," Bortles said. "It's a privilege to be able to experience this. And as a quarterback, it's very important to be that leader, and that comes with the territory and the position you play."
