ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF standout guard Briahanna Jackson has accepted an invitation to attend the 2013 USA Basketball Women's World University Games Team trials. The trials will be held May 16-19 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Jackson will compete alongside 30 other athletes for a chance to make the 12-member roster that will represent the Red, White and Blue at the World University Games held in July in Kazan, Russia. The field includes players from LSU, Tennessee, Connecticut, Louisville, Rutgers, Duke, Baylor and Stanford among others.

The World University Games are held every other year and are organized by the International University Sports Federation. The World University Games is a multi-sport competition open to men and women who are between the ages of 17-24, and are or have been within the past year, a student at a college or university.

Women's basketball competition at the 2013 Games will be held July 8-15 at eight different venues.

The USA Basketball women's team is set to compete in its 17th World University Games and looks to add to its medal count, which includes a record eight golds, six silvers and one bronze. Former team members include 2012 Olympic gold medalists Seimone Augustus, Tina Charles, Sylvia Fowles and Maya Moore as well as Olympians Carol Blazejowski, Ruthie Bolton, Anne Donovan, Pat Head (Summitt), Lisa Leslie, Katrina McClain, Suzie McConnell (Serio), Ann Meyers (Drysdale), DeLisha Milton-Jones, Cappie Pondexter, Ruth Riley, Katie Smith, Dawn Staley, Katy Steding, Tina Thompson, Kara Wolters and Lynette Woodward.

Jackson, a native of Tampa, Fla., was a force for the Knights in her first season as the team's second-leading scorer (15.0 ppg) and earned Conference USA Freshman of the Year distinction. She was voted to the C-USA All-Tournament team after helping guide the Knights to their third title game appearance in five years.

She swiped 108 steals in 34 games to break UCF's single-season steals record and the conference's 15-year-old freshman mark (No. 2 on the overall list).

"I am so proud of BJ. There's no question that she has earned this opportunity to compete in the trials with some of the elite players in all of women's college basketball," said UCF women's basketball coach Joi Williams, who is a member of the U.S. Women's Junior National Team Committee. "It will be a tremendous experience for her, and I know that she will represent the UCF Knights well."
