ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - For the first time in program history, the UCF track and field team has cracked into the top 10 of the outdoor season's national rankings. After clinching their fourth straight Conference USA championship, the Knights are locked in at No. 9 in Tuesday's USTFCCCA poll.
UCF jumped up three spots from last week's standing (No. 12) and is the only C-USA team present in the national team rankings. UCF is second only to Florida (No. 5) among programs in the state.
Kansas stayed steady at the No. 1 spot followed by Texas A&M, Oregon, LSU and Florida to round out the top five.
Coupled with the indoor season, UCF has not fallen out of the top 25 dating to April 26, 2011. The Knights' highest ranking came during the 2012 indoor regular season at No. 5 for back-to-back weeks on Jan. 31 and Feb. 7.
Currently, seven Knights and two relays are responsible for 11 marks that rank among this year's top 20 in the NCAA. The team is preparing for the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Greensboro, N.C., May 23-25. The list of accepted entries will be announced on Thursday, May 16.
