ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - In game one of the final home series of 2013, UCF was bounced by Tulane, 8-1, Friday at the UCF baseball complex. The Knights witnessed their record fall to 27-23 on the season and 11-8 in Conference USA.
Before Friday's rumble with the Green Wave (26-24, 9-10), UCF announced that due to the threat of inclement weather, game two of the series will move from 4 p.m. to 1 p.m., and Sunday's finale also was moved from 1 p.m. to 11 a.m.
Senior Erik Hempe kicked off his final home series in a Black and Gold uniform with a solo home run Friday, marking his fifth dinger of the season.
Following a first inning which featured UCF starting pitcher Ben Lively striking out a pair, Tulane took the first lead of the series with two runs in the second. The Green Wave then doubled their advantage to 4-0 thanks to Garrett Cannizaro's two-run shot to left one inning later.
Celebrating Senior Weekend, Hempe cut into the deficit in the fourth inning, blasting a 2-2 offering from Alex Byo over the left-field wall. However, the visitors answered immediately, collecting three runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth for an 8-1 cushion.
Commanding the hill for Tulane, Byo went the distance, tossing a complete game and allowing five hits on the night to secure the victory for the Green Wave.
