ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The No. 44 UCF women's golf team has received an at-large berth in the NCAA East Regional Tournament. It is the second straight season and the 10th time overall that the Knights have advanced to an NCAA Regional.
"We are excited to have been awarded an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship," first-year head coach Emily Marron said. "This is a product of a lot of hard work by the team and they deserve a chance to compete for a national championship."
The East Regional is slated for May 9-11 at the Auburn University Club. The field is stacked, including defending national champion Alabama, which is currently ranked No. 2. No. 5 Arkansas and No. 8 UCLA also headline the East Regional field.
"The East Regional is strong, but it's nice to stay in the south and play on similar grass and course conditions," Marron said. "That should help them feel comfortable. We will work hard over the next week and prepare fully to give it our best effort in Auburn."
The top eight teams in each of three regional tournaments advance to the NCAA Championship, slated for May 21-24 in Athens, Ga.
