TEXARKANA, Ark. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team finished third at the Conference USA Championship. The third and final round was held Tuesday at the Texarkana Country Club.
The Knights were one of only three teams in the 12-team field to finish under par for the tournament. Houston (-7) edged SMU (-4) for the conference title, with UCF just six strokes off the pace at -1.
Individually, Ricardo Gouveia led the way for UCF. The junior was the only Knight to come in under par in each round. He was 4-under for the tournament and finished fourth overall. After tallying back-to-back 1-under scores of 71 in the first two rounds, Gouveia came back with a 2-under 70 on Tuesday.
UCF had three Top-10 finishers in the conference tournament. Jose Joia finished 1-under for the event to tie for sixth place. He put together even-par scores of 72 in the first and third rounds, sandwiched around a 1-under 71 in Monday's second round. Greg Eason was tied for eighth, as he finished at even-par for the tournament.
Kyle Wilshire finished tied for 18th, after going +4 for the tournament to round out the UCF scoring. McCabe Buege also took part in the tournament for the Knights, finishing tied for 54th at +18.
UCF will now wait to find out if it receives an at-large bid to one of six NCAA Regionals, which will be played May 16-18.
