TEXARKANA, Ark. (UCFAthletics.com) - With four golfers carding rounds of par or better Sunday, the UCF men's golf team is just seven strokes off the lead after the first round of the Conference USA Championships.
SMU holds the team lead at 10-under, while the Knights sit in second place at -3. Houston is in third at -2 at the championship event, being held at the Texarkana Country Club.
Kyle Wilshire paced the Knights in the first round, carding a 2-under 70. He is currently tied for sixth place and just two shots off the lead, as four players tallied rounds of 68 (-4) Sunday. Ricardo Gouveia is just one stroke back of Wilshire and tied for 10th, after posting a 1-under score of 71. Jose Joia and Greg Eason each carded an even-par round of 72 in the first round and are tied for 14th. McCabe Buege is also taking part in the championship for UCF. He was 4-over in the first round and is currently tied for 42nd place.
