ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Continuing her remarkable senior season, Genevieve Lorbergs earned her fifth victory over a ranked opponent in UCF's women's tennis team's 6-1 loss to No. 25 Notre Dame Saturday. The Australia native also claimed her seventh-straight victory, and moved her dual-match record to 15-4 at the No. 1 position this spring.
The Black and Gold completed the regular season with a 13-7 record, while the Fighting Irish improved to 13-8.
Lorbergs battled one of the best players in the nation in No. 40 Britney Sanders, and fell behind by dropping the first set 6-4. The UCF senior stormed back to take the next set 6-4 before topping Sanders in the third-set super tiebreaker, 10-3.
It marked Lorbergs' highest-ranked opponent she had defeated in 2012-13. Her current streak of seven wins in a row has been highlighted by two triumphs versus ranked foes (No. 81 Matea Cutura from DePaul). After starting the year with a 6-8 record in tournament play, Lorbergs' 15-4 spring record pushed her overall total to 21-12 in singles.
With 21 wins in singles action, Lorbergs climbed to a tie for 14th on the UCF single-season victories chart.
Up next for the Knights will be the Conference USA Championship in Houston April 18-21. The bracket will be released by C-USA when it becomes finalized.
