ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Following a near upset against No. 33 Cornell Wednesday, the UCF men's tennis team will take on Troy Saturday. Doubles action begins play at 1 p.m. at the UCF Tennis Complex and admission is free to the public.
"We need to forget about Wednesday's match and focus on the task at hand," UCF head coach Bobby Cashman said. "Troy is a team that is desperate for a win and if we come out flat, they will beat us."
The Knights are 9-7 on the year, which includes a notable 6-2 home record. Six of their seven defeats have been against nationally ranked opponents.
Francesc Aulina is playing the best tennis of his career, with wins in five consecutive matches in the month of March and 10 of his last 12 overall contests.
Before the nationally ranked Big Red topped UCF, 4-3, the Knights had strung off a season best three victories in a row over UC-Irvine, Cleveland State and Marquette.
Troy travels to Orlando riding a three-match losing streak, which has dropped its record to 7-9 on the year. However, two of the Trojans losses have been against No. 22 Notre Dame and No. 38 Nebraska.
Troy is no stranger to UCF as both squads were once part of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Knights have faced the Trojans nine times in their past, with UCF on top eight of those times. UCF finished its last year, 2005, with a 4-2 victory over Troy to win the league title.
