ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Improving to 7-0 at home, the UCF women's tennis team collected a 5-2 victory against Boston University Saturday at the UCF Tennis Complex. The Knights improved to 10-5 on the year, giving the program its 22nd-straight season where it posted at least 10 victories.
Doubles would be decided at the No. 2 position after the two programs split matches at No. 1 and No. 3. UCF earned the victory at the top spot vs. the Terriers (6-5) when Genevieve Lorbergs and Josephine Haraldson thumped Leonie-Charlotte Athanasiadis and Jessi Linero, 8-1. That boosted the duo's record to 17-8 overall as well as 10-4 at the No. 1 doubles position.
To close out doubles play and provide their team with the 1-0 lead, Caroline Eberhart and Courtney Griffith teamed up for an 8-6 decision over Vivien Laszloffy and Sami Lieb.
The two programs split the first two points in singles play as well, with the Black and Gold holding a 2-1 advantage after Eberhart's 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 against Athanasiadis. That gave the freshman her 22nd victory in just her first season at the collegiate level as she boasts a 22-7 singles record in 2012-13 (Statistics updated 3/22).
UCF then went on to claim the next three matches in straight sets to secure its 10th team victory of 2013. Over at No. 6, Sofia Baptista notched a 6-2, 6-4 win vs. Kim McCallum, Griffith earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 5 against Linero and Lorbergs downed Lauren Davis at No. 1, 6-4, 6-2.
UCF will be away from competition for almost two weeks, and it will return to action March 29 at East Carolina and March 31 at UNC-Wilmington.
