Series Notes

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After a midweek sweep of Florida A&M, the UCF baseball team will turn its attention to Columbia beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m. The Knights (11-7) and Lions (1-6) will take part in a four-game set, the first for UCF since 2009.

This will be the fourth time head coach Terry Rooney has hosted a team from the Ivy League, and second meeting between the two squads in three years. The Knights lead the all-time series with the Lions, 10-2, as the two schools first met in UCF's inaugural 1973 season.

Friday night's matchup will also serve as 90s Night. Fans are encouraged to come decked out in their favorite gear from the decade for a chance to win tickets to Busch Gardens, Blue Man Group, and the reunion tour featuring Boyz II Men, 98 Degrees and New Kids On The Block. A 90-minute Massage Envy session will also be up for grabs.

On the field, UCF will once again turn to its Friday-night ace RHP Ben Lively (3-1). The Gulf Breeze native owns the second-lowest ERA in Division I with a 0.31 mark in 29 innings of work with 31 strikeouts. He will be opposed by LHP Davis Speer (0-1, 2.08 ERA).

Following Lively in the rotation will be junior RHP Danny Davis who will look to capitalize off his 6 2/3-inning win over Jacksonville last Saturday. On the year, Davis has compiled a 3-0 record in four starts while surrendering just seven earned runs in 23 1/3 innings of work. The Lions will trot out RHP Tim Giel (0-1. 5.73 ERA) who started in Columbia's 8-4 win over No. 16 Arizona last weekend.

The series will continue Sunday with a 1 p.m. matinee followed by Monday's 6:30 p.m. series finale. The last matchup will also serve as another Dollar Knight with $1 hot dogs and Coke products.
