No. 39 Knights Ready for Schenkel Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team travels to Statesboro, Ga. Wednesday in preparation for this weekend's Schenkel Invitational, hosted by Georgia Southern.

The Knights have been consistently climbing the rankings this spring and are currently rated as the No. 39 team in the nation by Golfstat. UCF will be facing a 15-team field at the Schenkel Invitational which includes three Top 10 teams and seven squads ranked in the Top 50, giving the Knights another chance to move up with a solid performance.

The tournament will be played at the Par-72 Forest Heights Country Club. The course will play at 6,692 yards for this weekend's three-day, three-round event. This will be the 34th edition of the Schenkel Invitational, which gets its name from legendary sports broadcaster Chris Schenkel. The tournament has featured some big names in the world of golf throughout the years. Schenkel Invitational alums - including Curtis Strange, Andy North, Jerry Pate, Jeff Sluman, Hal Sutton, Mark Calcavecchia, Bob Tway, David Toms, Todd Hamilton, Lucas Glover and Bubba Watson - have gone on to win 13 major tournaments. Schenkel Invitational alums have also won a total of 229 PGA Tour events.

UCF is sending Greg Eason, Ricardo Gouveia, Jose Joia, Kyle Wilshire and McCabe Buege to the Schenkel Invitational. That group of Knights will look to knock off the likes of No. 4 Texas and No. 6 Alabama, as well as in-state rivals No. 8 Florida and No. 16 North Florida. The Knights are coming off a third-place finish at the John Hayt Invitational where they picked up victories over four Top 20 teams.
