ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF's Gevenia Carter and Briahanna Jackson were honored by Conference USA on Sunday afternoon in recognition of their outstanding play for the 2012-13 season. Carter was named to the All-Conference USA Second Team while Jackson was selected to the All-Freshman Team.
Carter earned the first all-conference honor of her career and is the sixth Knight to be selected since the program joined the league in 2005-06. Jackson is the third rookie to be named to the All-Freshman team and the first in five years.
Carter has started in all but one of 30 games this year and leads the team in points (451), points per game (15.0), assists (85) and minutes played (1035) and is second for steals (82). She is one of 10 active 1,000-point scorers in the league.
She ranks fifth in C-USA for scoring (16.6) and third for steals (2.6) in conference-only games. She has solidified her name among the greats in the UCF record book, coming in at seventh in program history for career 3FG made (84) and eighth for career steals (168).
This season, she has scored in double figures in all but four games and boasts a current streak of 10-straight games.
Jackson highlights a freshman team as the leading rookie scorer in C-USA with 14.5 points per game. She recently broke the 15-year-old conference freshman single-season steals record, and with 98 to her name, needs five more to match UCF's overall record.
She has been named the league's Freshman of the Week three times, matching the most by a single player this season. For her efforts, Jackson was also recognized by College Sports Madness as its C-USA Freshman of the Year.
The Knights will square off against Houston in the first round of the C-USA Tournament on Wednesday at noon ET. UCF won the first meeting against the Cougars, 68-55, in the final home game of the season thanks in part to two 20-point performances from Carter and Jackson.
