ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The No. 9 UCF track and field team looks to add to its travel part to the NCAA Indoor Championships when a trio of long jumpers heads to Saturday's Last Chance Meet at Virginia Tech.
Senior Sonnisha Williams, junior Jen Clayton and freshman Alexis Faulknor will aim to hit marks that catapult them into the top-16 nationally to earn a bid to the meet in Fayetteville, Ark., on March 8-9. UCF is already planning to send standout sprinters Aurieyall Scott and Octavious Freeman along with hurdler Lutisha Bowen to the championships.
The Last Chance Meet will feature nearly 400 entrants representing more than 50 schools. The long jump will start at noon Saturday. Live results are available via Flash Results.
Williams is a two-time indoor All-American and represented UCF in its highest finish ever at the NCAA Indoor Championships (8th place) last year. Clayton emerged as this season's Conference USA long jump champion and has hit her best marks this season since transferring from LSU after her freshman year.
Faulknor was named the C-USA Freshman of the Meet and aspires to become UCF's first rookie jumper since Lizzie Harris (high jump, 2008) to earn a berth to the championships.
