ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Making its 2013 home debut, the UCF men's tennis team rolled to a 6-1 win over cross-town foe Rollins Sunday at the UCF Tennis Complex. The Knights took the doubles point and then claimed five of six singles matches.
The Knights moved to 2-3 on the year with the win. Rollins, one of the top teams nationally at the Division II level, was making its season debut.
"We are happy to come away with a solid win today against a quality opponent," UCF head coach Bobby Cashman said. "We wanted to step up and play fearlessly today and I feel we accomplished that all the way through."
At the No. 1 singles spot, Jorge Blasco eased to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Will Kwok. At No. 2, Amar Hromic held off Malte Christesen, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-1.
Facing Adrian DiFelice at the No. 4 spot, Matthew Gladstone was a 6-2, 6-4 winner. Francesc Aulina won at No. 5 and Mario Samson was victorious at No. 6.
Hromic and Juan Bolona posted an 8-5 win over Kwok and Robin Marchioni at the top doubles spot.
The match was the first of six straight at home for the Knights, who host Florida Atlantic 2 p.m. Friday. Admission is free at the UCF Tennis Complex.
