PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) -- With heavy rains passing through the area, wet conditions and excessive water on the course forced the cancellation of Tuesday's third round of the John Hayt Invitational at Sawgrass Country Club. The cancellation shortened the tournament to 54 holes for the first time in its history and left the UCF men's golf team with a third-place finish.

The Knights picked up victories over eight teams ranked in front of them coming into the tournament, including No. 7 Florida, No. 12 LSU, No. 14 Arkansas, No. 22 Tennessee and No. 44 Mississippi. North Florida took the team title. The host Ospreys were 17-under for the two rounds of play. Duke finished second at 5-under, while UCF was 9-over to take third place.

The Knights were paced by Ricardo Gouveia. The junior from Portugal carded a 4-under tally of 68 in the first round and was even par in round two to finish at -4 and in a tie for third place. Gouveia finished third in a tournament that featured 16 golfers ranked among the top 100 in the nation.

Greg Eason ended up in a tie for 20th place, going 2-over for the tournament. He shot a 3-under 69 in the first round, but scored a 5-over 77 on Monday. Jose Joia (75-75-149, +5) finished tied for 39th, while Kyle Wilshire (74-77-151, +7) was tied for 50th and rounded out the scoring for the Knights. McCabe Buege (78-76-154, +10) was tied for 63rd. Michael Visacki (77-81-159, +15) took part in the tournament as an individual and finished in a tie for 76th.

The Knights are back in action again March 15-17 at the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga.
