PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF was one of just three men's golf teams to shoot under par in Sunday's first round of the John Hayt Invitational at Sawgrass Country Club. The Knights were 2-under for the first round of the tournament and currently sit in third place.

UCF trails tournament hosts North Florida, which shot 12-under for the day and second-place Duke, which carded a first-round total of 6-under. The John Hayt Invitational features 11 teams ranked in the Golfstat Top 50 in its 15-team field.

Ricardo Gouveia paved the way for UCF in the first round. He is currently tied for second on the day after carding a 4-under score of 68. North Florida's Kevin Phelan leads the field after shooting an 8-under 64, which was a tournament record for a single round.

UCF's Greg Eason is just one stroke back of his teammate Gouveia and is tied for sixth after one round. Kyle Wilshire was 2-over for the Knights with a first-round tally of 74, good enough to be in a tie for 36th place. Jose Joia was 3-over (75) and is tied for 43rd to round out UCF's first-round scoring.
