HATTIESBURG, Miss. (UCFAthletics.com) - Senior guard Gevenia Carter lit up Reed Green Coliseum on Thursday night to lift the UCF women's basketball team to its third-straight win. Carter was unstoppable with a career-high 29 points as the Knights (10-14, 4-6) toppled Southern Miss (12-11, 4-6), 75-62.

Led by their senior guard, the Knights posted their best field-goal percentage of the season (.475, 29-of-61) with all-around efforts from several players. Carter sank a career-best 12-of-17 showing from the field to post her second-straight 20-point outing. Fellow senior Kayli Keough nearly recorded the first double-double of her career with 11 points and a career-high-matching nine rebounds, and junior Sara Djassi rounded out the trio in double digits with 10 points.

Freshman Briahanna Jackson filled the stat sheet with 9 points - all in the second half - a career-high seven assists, six rebounds and four steals.

The Knights fought back from a 9-point first-half deficit to get within 1 point at the break. Sophomore Andrea Hines sank a 3-pointer from the right wing to tie the score at 25, and Carter closed out the half with a jumper, a steal and a fast-break layup to bring her team within 30-29.

The teams exchanged baskets to open the half before UCF gained steam on an 11-0 run that was capped by Djassi's jumper with 12:57 remaining, 47-36. The Golden Eagles tried to threaten the Knights' lofty advantage, but UCF refused to budge.

Ance Celmina cut the deficit to 63-57 with less than five minutes to play, but Keough quickly put any notions of a comeback to rest with a free throw and a jumper that safely kept the game in the Knights' favor.

UCF avenged its 62-57 loss earlier in the season to USM and remained unbeaten in Hattiesburg since 2009.

UCF returns to Orlando for its "Play 4 Kay" Pink game against reigning C-USA champion UTEP on Sunday at 2 p.m. The first 200 people in attendance will receive an exclusive UCF hot pink T-shirt and pink pom-poms, and fans can meet the team in a post-game autograph session.
