ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Fresh off its season-opening tournament on the west coast, the UCF softball team is excited to be back in Orlando to play in front of its home fans Wednesday at the UCF Softball Complex.

The Knights begin their home schedule with a 5:30 p.m. contest with in-state foe North Florida. Admission to the game is free for all fans. UCF supporters that can't make it to the field can follow all of the action via UCF All-Access for streaming video/audio, via UCFAthletics.com Gametracker and on the Knights official twitter feed @UCF_Softball.

Missing five of its nine starters, the Black and Gold did not get its desired result at the Sportco Kick-Off Classic in Las Vegas as it dropped all four contests it played. However, head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie was still encouraged by the progress some of her younger players made.

"We are a no excuses team," Gillispie said. "We didn't have our full allotment of players last weekend, but we have a big roster for a reason. When players are out others have to step up. We didn't win in Vegas, but the experience our freshman got in going to help us tremendously moving forward. As we continue to get healthy and back to our full allotment, these freshmen who are playing right now aren't going to give up their spots without a battle.

Last weekend, the Knights got a tremendous all-around performance from leadoff hitter and co-captain, Kahley Novak, who reached base eight times in the first four contests for a sterling .462 OBP. The sophomore middle infielder also swiped a team-best three bases in the tournament. Senior Hailey Barraco, who had just two hits in limited playing time last season, blasted two big home runs and currently leads the team with five RBI.

Season tickets for the 2013 season cost just $30 and are general admission. Single-game tickets are also available for $5 for adults, $3 for UCF faculty/staff, youth and seniors.
