GAINESVILLE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After carding just two individual scores of even par in Saturday's first two rounds of the SunTrust Gator Invitational, the UCF men's golf team came back strong in the final round. The Knights put together four individual scores of par or better Sunday to climb from 10th place at the beginning of the day and finish in fifth place.

We have a tough group of kids who never give up, UCF head coach Bryce Wallor said.

Ricardo Gouveia was the most consistent golfer for UCF over the weekend. He carded rounds of 70, 72 and 70 to go two-over par and finish in a tie for 13th place. Greg Eason led the charge on Sunday and finished tied for 20th. He opened with rounds of 75 and 70, but finished with a 69 for a three-round total of 214 (+4). Kyle Wilshire (78-71-70-219) and McCabe Buege (73-75-71-219) each finished tied for 46th. Jose Joia (74-77-70-221, +11) rounded out the Knights' lineup.

It's good to have the first event (of the spring) under our belts, Wallor said. We now have a good feel for what we need to work on going into our next event.

Florida State ran away with the team competition, shooting and 8-under 832. The Seminoles were the only squad to go under par for the tournament. FSU's Daniel Berger (69-69-65-203, -7) was the individual medalist, as well.

The UCF men are in action again Feb. 24-26 at the John Hayt Invitational in Ponte Vedra.
