LINCOLN, Neb. (UCFAthletics.com) - A day removed from watching one of its own rise to the top of the collegiate and world 200m standings, the No. 9 UCF track and field team garnered more recognition Saturday at the 38th annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational.
Sophomore Octavious Freeman was named the most valuable female performer of the meet after two first-place finishes in the 60 meters and 200 meters.
Freeman, who entered the 60m as the favorite, dominated once again with a time of 7.25 - her sixth performance of the season that ranks among the NCAA's top five. She then posted a season-best 23.40 in the 200m to break into the nation's top 10. Junior Aurieyall Scott, who posted a school record and new NCAA-leading time in Friday's 200m preliminaries, was rested.
Although junior Afia Charles jetted to her best 400-meter time of the season, 54.20, to claim first place, she was disqualified from the race for stepping on the line.
Senior Lutisha Bowen placed second in the 60-hurdles finals with a time of 8.36, finishing runner-up to Illinois' Breeana Coleman, who ranks among the nation's top 20 this year.
Freshman Megan Patterson broke through with a personal-best outing in the shot put to lead three Knights in the event with a mark of 13.44m/44-01.25.
Freshman Shemael Hamilton was the lone jumper in action on day two and hit a mark of 11.34m/37-02.50 in the triple jump.
UCF will once again split between two meets in the upcoming weekend, traveling to the Clemson Tiger Paw Invite in South Carolina and the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
