ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After starting the 2013 dual-match campaign with a 2-0 record, the UCF women's tennis team hits the road this week. The Knights travel to No. 1 Florida Wednesday at 3 p.m., and also will take on Florida Atlantic Saturday at 11 a.m.
UCF dominated last week in two 7-0 home wins over Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M. That enabled Caroline Eberhart and Josephine Haraldson to maintain their team lead with 10 singles wins, and Clare Mendell is right behind them with nine.
Also continuing to produce, the doubles combination of Haraldson and Genevieve Lorbergs went 2-0 at the No. 1 position to boost their record to 9-5. Eberhart and Courtney Griffith have a solid winning percentage as well, standing at 5-1 together this season.
For Florida, it will rumble with South Florida in its dual-match opener on Tuesday before hosting the Black and Gold. The Gators are the defending national champions, as well as the alma mater for UCF head coach Stephanie Nickitas. They are led by No. 1 Sofie Oyen, No. 5 Lauren Embree, No. 22 Danielle Collins, No. 66 Brianna Morgan, No. 82 Caroline Hitimana and No. 114 Olivia Janowicz in singles. On the doubles court, Janowicz and Hitimana are ranked No. 47 in the nation.
Florida Atlantic started its 2013 campaign Jan. 11 when it suffered a 7-0 loss to No. 9 Miami. A total of eight of the 10 student-athletes on the Owls' roster hail from the South Florida region. Meanwhile, UCF has won six-straight over FAU, and have a 24-11 lead in the all-time series.
