ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) -- The UCF women's golf team is in final preparations for the spring portion of its schedule to begin. The Knights are currently ranked No. 50 by Golfstat and No. 51 by Golfweek. First-year head coach Emily Marron sat down with UCFAthletics.com recently to discuss her team's fall performance, the break between the fall and spring schedules and goals for the spring.

Now that you've had some time to reflect, what was your take on the fall portion of your schedule?
I felt we got better as the fall went on. Being a new coach, they had to get used to me, I had to get used to their games. By the end, it seemed like we got it. We finished up at UNLV and could have won. We were right there and had a chance. We really started to jell as far as coaching and playing. I got to know their games and they got to know my coaching style a little bit. It seemed like by the end we got it going. So, we're excited about that.

What was accomplished during the break? What did you ask the team to work on during that time?
Over the break, some of them go home to colder climates and the break is good for them. For others, this is the time of year you can do equipment changes, club fitting, get yardages down. We really wanted any of them who wanted new equipment to get used to their new equipment, putting changes, see their swing coaches. They've been working hard. We feel like they're ready to go. It's not like we're going into the spring season saying we don't know what to expect. We expect them to play well.

Some of Knights took part in events during the break. Can you give us an update?
Four of them played in the Sally Amateur (at the Oceanside Country Club in Ormond Beach, Fla.) a couple weeks ago. Mo (Monifa Sealy) played very well at the Sally (tie-11th) and she also represented Trinidad and Tobago at the Copa de las Americas down in Miami and played well. Kaitlyn Price, Jessica Schall and Robyn Doig all played in the Sally and all played well. They all got better as they went on. We use those tournaments to get the rust out. They want to go and see how their game is, so they can come back ready to play.

What's your message to the team heading into the spring schedule?
We slipped back a little bit in fall as far as our rankings, so one of our goals is to improve our national ranking. We have our eyes clearly set on NCAAs. This team made it there last year and that's their standard for this year. They not only want the goal of making it to regionals, they want to make it to finals. We know we have a long road to go here. Our ranking is something we look at. I don't want to be obsessed by rankings, but we have a great spring schedule that's going to put us up against some of the best right away. We're excited about the spring schedule. It's going to present us some opportunities to get our national ranking up. We feel like we want to be in the top 40 by the end. Obviously, the conference is important. This is our last year in Conference USA and we've talked about that. We don't necessarily talk about goals as far as winning, as much as performance. We want to perform at the level we know we can be at and be at a consistent standard every week.
