BLACKSBURG, Va. (UCFAthletics.com) - The No. 10 UCF track and field team produced four personal records at the Hokie Invitational on Friday night. Among the Knights' solid performances were two of Conference USA's top-five marks in the weight throw this season.
Sophomore Precious Ogunleye earned the first win of her collegiate career with a personal best 18.37m/60-03.25 in the weight throw. She continues to rank third in the conference this season in the event.
Junior Destinee Romain finished right behind her teammate in second place, just missing her personal record with a throw of 18.21m/59-09.00, which ranks fifth in C-USA. Freshman Megan Patterson topped her personal best with a toss of 16.84m/55-03.00 to finish seventh.
UCF sent a meet-best three qualifiers to the 60-meter finals as Christal Peterson, Alexis Faulknor and Amanda Leland all finished second in their respective heats of the preliminaries. Peterson earned second place with a time of 7.50 and Faulknor bested her personal record in the finals, clocking 7.54 for fourth place. Leland posted a season-best 7.65 in the prelims before finishing eighth in the finals at 7.66.
Freshman Amy Ankli rounded out the day's events with a personal best in the mile, crossing the finish line in 5:31.33 for 12th place.
The meet will resume Saturday at noon with the high jump and 5,000-meter run. Live scoring for the meet is available via Flash Results.
