ORLANDO, Florida (UCFAthletics.com) - The 2013 baseball season officially kicked off for UCF Friday afternoon on a gorgeous Florida afternoon. The Knights began the day with team drills and followed up with an eight-inning scrimmage that pitted Gray vs. Gold.
Taking the mound for Gold was junior Ben Lively who split the eight innings of work with freshman Tyler Martin. Gray saw senior Brian Adkins take to the mound with rookie Zac Favre tossing the last four innings. Redshirt senior Erik Hempe smashed the afternoon's only home run which snuck in the left-field foul pole.
The Knights will continue scrimmaging all weekend in preparation for Opening Knight on Feb. 15. Fans can get into the spirit of baseball season by attending Fan Fest Saturday night following the 4 p.m. men's basketball game vs. SMU.
