ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Off to an impressive start this season, the UCF men's basketball team will host Miami for a big in-state showdown Tuesday. Tipoff at the UCF Arena is 8 p.m.
UCF is 6-2 and has won three-consecutive contests. The Hurricanes, who are receiving top-25 votes, are 6-1 and own a victory over No. 13 Michigan State.
The game is part of the UCF Holiday Ticket Package, which includes lower bowl admission to the Knights' upcoming four December games for only $50. To order the package today, call (407) UCF-1000.
The contest is serving as UCF's Military Appreciation Night. Military and former military personnel and up to four family members can each purchase $8 tickets to the game and will also receive a limited edition t-shirt.
The game will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network. Dave Ryan will handle the play-by-play and will be joined by Pete Gillen on the broadcast.
UCF has excelled this season thanks to strong shooting. The Knights lead the country in 3-point field goal percentage (44.1) and are making 52.3 percent of their attempts from the field, good for second in the nation.
Conference USA Preseason Player of the Year Keith Clanton is leading the squad in scoring (17.1 points per game) and rebounds (9.8). In its last contest Friday at Old Dominion, UCF received a boost offensively from Calvin Newell. The guard, who was playing in his second contest with the Knights after sitting out last year following his transfer from Oklahoma, hit four 3-pointers and finished with 17 points against the Monarchs.
The Hurricanes will serve as the first ACC program to visit the UCF Arena since it opened in 2007. On Friday, Miami pounded previously undefeated Charlotte, 77-46.
On Tuesday, the UCF Arena box office will be open prior to the game. UCF students are admitted free to all home games with a valid school ID.
The contest will air on the UCF IMG Sports Network and its flagship station, 740 The Game in Orlando. Marc Daniels and Taylor Young will call all of the action from courtside. Live statistics will be available at UCFAthletics.com.
