ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Middle blocker Tory McCutcheon of the UCF volleyball team was named to the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District First Team Thursday. This is the second-consecutive season McCutcheon has landed on the first-team. She also earned second-team honors in 2010.

By being voted onto the first team, McCutcheon will now be included on the Capital One Academic All-America ballot which will be voted upon starting Nov. 13.

As a program, we're extremely proud of Tory and everything she stands for on and off the court, head coach Todd Dagenais said. She's the exact embodiment of this program's philosophy both on the court and in the classroom. We're proud to have our student-athletes recognized for these types of achievements and therefore have opportunities to earn national awards as well.

McCutcheon is the second Knight to earn all-district first-team honors as Jenny Heppert earned a spot on the first-team in 2007 and 2008.

In the classroom, McCutcheon has been a stellar student since stepping foot on campus in 2009. She currently carries a 3.905 GPA and is majoring in molecular biology and microbiology. She has been named to the Conference USA Academic Honor Roll, and has received the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal in each of the last seasons.

This definitely justifies a lot of the hard work we all put in and it feels really good to be recognized for it, McCutcheon said. Being organized and planning ahead has helped me out so much in being able to balance my volleyball schedule and academics.

McCutcheon has been a force for the Knights up front on the court as well in 2012, owning the league's second-best hitting percentage in league matches (.395) and tops overall on the squad. For the season, McCutcheon has posted 11 matches with a .300 hitting percentage or better with eight of those being .500 or better.

The talented senior and the rest of her teammates will play UAB and Memphis on Friday and Sunday as they celebrate senior weekend.
