ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Boasting four-straight 4.0 semesters in graduate school, UCF senior defensive back Lyle Dankenbring was voted onto the Capital One Academic All-District First Team Thursday. The Knights have now posted six-consecutive seasons in which they placed at least one player on the academic all-district team.
By earning a spot on the first team, Dankenbring will now be included on the Capital One Academic All-America ballot, which will be voted upon starting Nov. 13.
A native of Palm City, Fla., Dankenbring received his bachelor's degree in political science (pre-law track with a coaching minor) in 2011, and is currently in the teacher education master's program. He was a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation William V. Campbell Tophy, which recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation. Dankenbring also has earned the Conference USA Academic Medal during his career for having a grade-point average above a 3.75.
On the field, Dankenbring has appeared in 40 games in a Black and Gold uniform, including four starts. For his career, he has 63 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions, while this year he has made three starts and collected 19 tackles with an interception.
Dankenbring and the Knights (7-2, 5-0) will travel to Texas this weekend to clash with UTEP Saturday at 7 p.m. ET on FOX College Sports (live on FOX College Sports Atlantic) as they look to stay all alone in first place in the C-USA East Division.
