ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's basketball team will conclude a busy week with a big challenge Friday when the Knights play at No. 7 Florida. Tipoff from the O'Connell Center in Gainesville is 4 p.m.
The game will be televised statewide on Sun Sports. Larry Vettel will handle play-by-play duties and will be joined by Mark Wise on the broadcast. UCF fans outside of the Sunshine State can watch the contest online at ESPN3.com.
UCF's (3-1) young team has been led by veterans Keith Clanton, Tristan Spurlock and Isaiah Sykes this year. Clanton, who has started 94-straight games at power forward, has scored in double figures in all four games and has three double-doubles. Against Middle Tennessee on Tuesday, he totaled 15 points, eight rebounds, a career-high seven assists and four blocks.
Spurlock scored a career-high 17 points Tuesday and is averaging 13.5 points. Playing point guard for the first time on the collegiate level, Sykes is averaging 17.5 points, 5.0 boards and 5.0 assists.
The Gators are 4-0 this year and have a notable victory over No. 22 Wisconsin. The team returns three starters from last season's squad that advanced to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight.
UCF and Florida will be meeting for the first time since their memorable 2010 contest at the Amway Center in downtown Orlando. The game will serve as a return to Gainesville for UCF head coach Donnie Jones, who served as an assistant at Florida from 1996-07 and helped the Gators claim national titles in 2006 and 2007.
Fans can listen to the game on the UCF IMG Sports Network and its flagship station, 740 The Game in Orlando. Marc Daniels will have the call from Gainesville and former UCF guard Taylor Young will provide color commentary. Pregame coverage will begin at 3:30 p.m.
