ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's basketball team officially kicked off the 2012-2013 season as it defeated Lynn, 65-47, in an exhibition game on Friday at the UCF Arena.
The Knights were swarming defensively as they held Lynn to just 29.3 percent shooting and forced 26 turnovers. The Knights picked off 11 passes and scored 30 points off Lynn miscues.
Senior Kayli Keough had a strong game as she finished with 15 points, six rebounds and five steals in a team-high 31 minutes. Sara Djassi, a transfer from Portugal by way of Chipola College, got the start at small forward and responded with 14 points and nine boards in her first game with the Knights. Freshman Briahanna Jackson stuffed the stat sheet off the bench with 11 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals.
The Knights' stifling defense was on display in the first half as they forced 19 turnovers and took a 36-15 lead into the locker room. Keough led all scorers at the break with 13 points and she was backed by 10 from the newcomer Djassi.
UCF will return to the court on Friday, Nov. 9 as it kicks off its regular season at home against Georgia State. This is the first of 14 scheduled games at the UCF Arena this season.
