ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Coming off a big win at Kentucky, the UCF men's soccer team will close the regular season Saturday at Marshall. The match in Hurricane, W.Va., will begin at 7 p.m.
Following their 1-0 shutout victory over the Wildcats Wednesday, the Knights (7-6-3, 4-3-0 Conference USA) are currently fourth in the C-USA standings with 12 points. The top-six squads in the league earn a spot in the C-USA Championship, which starts next Wednesday in Birmingham, Ala. Marshall (11-4-1, 3-4-0) is seventh in the league standings with nine points. With several outcomes still possible, the final four matches of the regular season will determine the final field and seeds 2-6 for the league championship.
On Wednesday at Kentucky, the Knights received the game's lone goal on a free kick in the 40th minute from Omar Vallejo. The score was Vallejo's third in as many games. Sebastian Evers was big for UCF in goal as he totaled nine saves, with six coming in the second half. The shutout was the fifth of the year for Evers and the Knights.
Marshall is 4-1-0 at home this season.
A year ago, the Knights posted a 2-0 win over the Herd in Orlando in the regular-season finale for both teams. Kevan George opened the scoring for UCF in the 49th minute with a goal from 40 yards out. UCF has a 6-3-1 edge in the all-time series with Marshall and has won four-straight over the Herd.
