ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After nearly posting a triple-double in the Knights' season-opening victory at cross-state rival USF, junior Isaiah Sykes of the UCF men's basketball team was selected as the Conference USA Player of the Week Monday. The Detroit native totaled 26 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high eight assists in the 74-56 win over the Bulls, who won a pair of NCAA Tournament games last year.
Sykes, who usually plays small forward, started at point guard for the first time and had a dominating individual performance. He played 38 minutes and shot 10-of-16 from the floor. Five of his 11 rebounds came on the offensive end. Sykes also had two steals in the win, which was the first for UCF over USF in Tampa since 1978.
The C-USA Player of the Week honor is the first career weekly league award for Sykes.
Sykes and the Knights will make their 2012-13 home debut Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the UCF Arena against Alabama State. Season tickets, which start at just $96 for a school-record 20 games, are currently available by calling (407) UCF-1000 or by visiting UCFAthletics.com.
