ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Turnovers proved too costly for the UCF women's basketball team Friday night as the Knights dropped their season opener, 64-50, to Georgia State.

UCF allowed the Panthers to convert 34 points off its 28 turnovers in the game.

Freshman Briahanna Jackson led the Knights with an impressive stat line of 18 points, six rebounds and a game-high six steals, and senior Kayli Keough grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Georgia State led from the get-go, jutting out to a 17-3 lead before Erika Jones snapped the dry spell with a jumper thanks to an assist from Sara Djassi. But the Panthers found a way to continually disrupt the Knights' rhythm to maintain a considerable edge, 39-24, as the teams headed into halftime.

GSU increased its lead to as large as 24 points in the first four minutes of the second half before Jackson sank two free throws off a flagrant foul to spur the Knights on a 9-0 run for a 52-37 deficit.

Unfortunately, the Knights were never able to shrink the gap to single digits as Georgia State held on for the win.

Up next, the Knights will make a short road trip to Daytona Beach to face St. John's in a neutral- site game Sunday at the Ocean Center at 1 p.m.
