ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Thanks to a 4-for-4 evening in a 40-20 win over East Carolina Oct. 4, UCF sophomore Shawn Moffitt received national attention Tuesday. The Orlando native and Dr. Phillips High School graduate was one of just three players in the country to receive Lou Groza National Collegiate Placekicker Award Star of the Week honors.

Earlier in the week, Moffitt was selected as the College Football Performance Awards National Specialist of the Week for his efforts in the ECU game.
In his first full season as the Knights' starting placekicker, Moffitt had a career night to help the Black and Gold claim a victory in the Conference USA opener vs. the Pirates. With the score knotted at 14-14, he booted a 22-yard field goal with 10:58 left in the second quarter, then pushed the lead to 20-14 with a 23-yard attempt about five minutes later.
ECU stayed with UCF by making it 20-17 at halftime, but Moffitt's 36-yard field goal to open the second half kept momentum with the Knights. He later closed the scoring with 6:35 remaining in the fourth quarter by connecting on a personal-best 49-yarder. Overall, Moffitt, who leads UCF in scoring with 38 points this season, finished by scoring 16 of UCF's points on four field goals and four extra points.
Entering 2012, Moffitt's previous career-long was 39 yards, but this year he already has conversions of 49 and 42 yards, and boasts a 7-for-7 mark in field-goal attempts this season. Meanwhile, his career-high in field goals made was two against Memphis in 2011 before he amassed four vs. ECU.
The Lou Groza Award, named after one of the all-time great kickers in football and Cleveland Browns history, will be presented as part of the Home Depot ESPN College Football Awards in Orlando Dec. 6. For more information, visit LouGrozaAward.com.
Moffitt and the Knights are 3-2 on the year and 1-0 in C-USA, and will host Southern Miss in an East Division rumble Saturday at 8 p.m.
