ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Orlando native and Edgewater High School product Quincy McDuffie was voted as the Conference USA Co-Special Teams Player of the Week Monday. The UCF senior helped the Knights erase a 14-0 first-quarter deficit to East Carolina Oct. 4 with a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in UCF's 40-20 victory.
McDuffie along with sophomore placekicker Shawn Moffitt received praise from the College Football Performance Awards as well. McDuffie was the CFPA National Kick Returner of the Week, while Moffitt earned CFPA National Specialist of the Week honors. A graduate of nearby Dr. Phillips High School, Moffitt was a perfect 4-for-4 in field goals against East Carolina, including a career-long 49-yarder in the fourth quarter.
As ECU gained momentum with a quick 14-0 lead, McDuffie responded by using perfect blocking to take the ensuing kickoff 99 yards to cut the Pirates' advantage in half. It began a stretch of 20-unanswered points for the Knights.
McDuffie's return tied a school record (Todd Cleveland) as it was his fourth kickoff return for a touchdown since his true freshman season in 2009. He now ranks second in school history with 2,080 return yards, trailing only Ted Wilson's record of 2,121 yards from 1983-86.
The wide receiver finished with two returns for 128 yards vs. ECU, as well as two receptions for 67 yards including a 64-yard touchdown catch. It was the longest reception of McDuffie's career.
McDuffie's weekly honor was his second of his career, as he also was the C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week Nov. 22, 2010.
The Knights stand at 3-2 on the year and 1-0 in C-USA, and will host Southern Miss (0-5, 0-1) in an East Division matchup Saturday at 8 p.m. at Bright House Networks Stadium.
