WINTER PARK, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Rain may have gotten in the way Friday, but nothing stopped the UCF women's tennis team Saturday at the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational hosted by Rollins College. The Knights combined to go 18-1 in singles and doubles play during day two.
In UCF's 15 singles victories, the Knights did not drop a set. Over in Flight A of singles action, Genevieve Lorbergs won both of her matches to advance to the semifinals, and Jenna Doerfler also picked up a victory to move to the semifinals in the other half of the draw.
Representing the Knights in Flight B, Courtney Griffith won a pair of matches in the bottom half, while Josephine Haraldson recording a second-round victory to reach the semifinals as well.
Taking part in Flight C, Sofia Baptista, Carolina Eberhart and Clare Mendell all went 2-0, as Baptista and Eberhart will square off in the semis and Mendell faces Lynn's Anna Kriz on the other side of the bracket.
And in Flight D of singles, Ann-Sophie Porry stayed alive with two wins, dropping only two games overall in those matches.
Three doubles teams are still in main draws, highlighted by the combination of Lorbergs and Haraldson in Flight A. Also remaining in the main draw for the Black and Gold are Mendell and Eberhart as well as Doerfler and Porry in Flight B.
UCF wraps up its second tournament of the fall Sunday in Winter Park.
