TEAM NOTES
-With the victory, UCF jumps to 6-2 on the year and stays perfect in Conference USA with a 4-0 record. Marshall fell to 3-5 and 2-2.
-Every team in the East Division except UCF and East Carolina (4-1) has at least two league losses, and UCF defeated ECU Oct. 4.
-The Knights became bowl eligible for the fifth time in the last eight seasons, and the first time since 2010.
-UCF's winning streak over Marshall stretched to eight games, which ties for the longest streak over a single opponent in school history (tied with Memphis, as UCF won its eighth-straight over the Tigers Oct. 20).
-With the 54 points, UCF put up the most against Marshall in series history. The previous high was 47 in 2007.
-For the first time all season, the starting offensive line was changed up as senior Phil Smith started at right tackle (first start as a Knight after 20 starts at Georgia Tech), while junior Jordan McCray moved from right guard to left guard and junior Justin McCray switched from right tackle to right guard.
-UCF did not have a sack in its previous two games, but had four Saturday.
-The Knights held the Thundering Herd to 10 first-half points, tied for their lowest of the season (West Virginia).
-Marshall ran 98 plays. The record for an opponent was 106 by Western Illinois in 1992.
-Despite running 36 fewer plays, UCF put up 568 total yards of offense to Marshall's 364.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
-Captains for UCF were: senior offensive lineman Phil Smith, senior linebacker D.J. Williams and senior punter Jamie Boyle.
-Along with Smith earning his first UCF start, redshirt freshman Deion Green made his first-career start at defensive end.
-Green went on to make an immediate impact with six tackles and a pair of sacks.
-Senior Quincy McDuffie ran back kickoffs of 97 and 98 yards for touchdowns Saturday, marking the first time in UCF history a Knight had two kickoff returns for touchdowns in the same game. It also tied an NCAA record (has happened 17 times including twice Saturday), and was the first time in C-USA history a player had two in one game.
-McDuffie also tied the school record with three returns for TDs in a single-season, matching Todd Cleveland's record set in 1994.
-McDuffie claimed sole possession of first all-time at UCF with six kickoff returns for touchdowns in his career. He already has the career record for kickoff return yards, set earlier this year.
-Senior running back Latavius Murray entered the day by having a streak of 266-consecutive carries without losing a fumble (Memphis in 2008), and 133-straight carries without simply putting the ball on the ground (FIU in 2011). He started the day with just two fumbles in his career since 2008, and on Saturday he extended the streak to 149 carries without a fumble.
-Murray had three rushing touchdowns, giving him eight for the season. He now has sole possession of third on the all-time list with 30 for his career (record is 45 by Kevin Smith). It was the second time in his career (Oct. 30, 2010) he had three in a game.
-For the evening, netted 16 carries for 156 yards while hauling in two passes for 38, marking the first time in his career he had back-to-back 100-yard performances. He now has three 100-yard games this year, and six for his career which is tied for ninth in UCF history.
-Murray had four overall touchdowns for the first time in his career.
-Murray's 75-yard rushing touchdown was tied for the seventh-longest rush in UCF history (he had an 83-yard run at Memphis).
-Sophomore QB Blake Bortles entered the day with a streak of 147-straight pass attempts without an INT, tied for the second longest in school history. But he threw a pick on his first attempt Saturday to end the streak (record is 162 by Vic Penn in 1999).
-Bortles completed the night with a career-high 277 passing yards on 15 completions.
-Junior WR Jeff Godfrey had a 33-yard reception in the first quarter, the longest of his career. Godfrey finished with a team-high five receptions and 71 yards, including a 16-yard TD grab.
-The trio of Jonathan Davis, Ray Shipman and Terrance Plummer each led the way with nine tackles and four combined tackles for loss.
-Fresh off of his C-USA Defensive Player of the Week award, senior cornerback A.J. Bouye netted seven tackles while breaking up two passes.
