ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) -Redshirt sophomore setter Marie Reiterova was named the Conference USA Setter of the Week by the league office on Monday afternoon. Reiterova totaled 100 assists, 11 digs and five blocks over the weekend as the Knights swept a home-and-home series against Southern Miss.
This award is the second of the season for the Knights as senior Meredith Murphy won Defensive Player of the Week honors one week ago. It also marks the 12th time a member of the program has been honored with a weekly award by the C-USA since 2005. Reiterova becomes the fourth setter in school history to receive a Setter of the Week award, following Lauren Rosenthal in 2008, Andee Youngblood in 2009 and Rachel Vukson in 2010 and 2011
Marie has worked very hard over the past several weeks to make our offense more consistent, head coach Todd Dagenais said. I think our hitters are responding well to the work that Marie has put in and that collaborative effort is putting our team back in a position to be a conference championship contender. We're very happy Marie has received conference recognition for our sweep this weekend.
Reiterova's steady hand offensively helped guide the Knights to two of their most efficient offensive performances of the season. UCF hit .305 on Friday night in a 3-1 victory and topped that by swinging at a .311 clip in Sunday's afternoon sweep. For the weekend, Reiterova averaged an impressive 14.29 assists per set against the Golden Eagles.
At 6-4 in league play, and 9-13 overall, Reiterova and the Knights will look to improve their place in the conference standings on Friday night as they host East Carolina at 7 p.m.
