TAMPA, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Facing the best competition the region has to offer, the UCF women's tennis team completed action at the USTA/ITA Southeast Regionals Saturday in Tampa. Genevieve Lorbergs produced a victory in her first match of the day for the Knights.
Competing in the singles backdraw, Lorbergs faced off with Stetson's Diana Bukajeva and claimed the first set, 6-3. Even though Lorbergs suffered a 6-3 loss in the second set, she bounced back in the third-set super-tiebreaker, 10-4.
After playing a tough first match, Lorbergs went the distance again in the second round but this time was unable to get a win in a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(10-3) defeat to Georgia State's Linn Timmermann.
Also in action Saturday, Josephine Haraldson suffered a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Whitney Byrd of Georgia State in the first round of the backdraw.
UCF will conclude its fall schedule back in Tampa when South Florida hosts the Florida State Championships Nov. 2-4.
