ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team is set to host one of the top college golf tournaments in the nation. Nine Top 25 teams will be heading to Orlando for the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational, which begins Sunday and concludes Tuesday.
UCF and Texas Tech co-host the tournament. Included in the field are No. 1 California, No. 2 Texas, No. 5 Florida, No. 6 New Mexico, No. 8 Alabama, No. 10 Vanderbilt, No. 11 LSU, No. 13 Arkansas and No. 21 Indiana.
Obviously, having so many great teams come to Orlando showcases what Orlando golf is all about and it showcases our university, head coach Bryce Wallor said.
Wallor said he and the team are looking forward to the tournament, which will be played at one of the top courses in Florida and the nation.
Co-hosting at Isleworth with Texas Tech is something that's very special for our program, Wallor said. It's a golf course that I think is the finest in the state. It's certainly one of the finest in America. It has all of the high degree of difficulty of a major championship. It's set up to play like a major championship. I think it tests the best players in the country like a major championship would.
The Knights hope to use Isleworth as a measuring stick to see how they stack up as the fall portion of their season begins to wind down.
It's pretty much a showcase for the NCAA Championships, Wallor said of the Isleworth Collegiate. An event like this will give you a good look as to how you stack up against the best of the best and what you can look forward to, either for improvements or for continuing to build throughout the rest of the year.
The Isleworth Collegiate Invitational tees off at 8 a.m. Sunday morning. Live results will be available via GolfStat.com and full coverage of the Knights will be available here at UCFAthletics.com each day of the tournament.
