ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Following a successful summer playing in the USL Premier Development League, Deshorn Brown joined his UCF teammates in early August for preseason camp. As a result of his offensive exploits playing for Reading AC, the junior forward began his time as a Knight with great confidence in his abilities.
That confidence has carried over into the season. Brown leads UCF with eight goals. He ranks 37th nationally with 1.50 points per game and third in Conference USA with three game-winning goals.
Playing in only 13 contests for Reading AC, Brown scored 13 goals. The native of Jamaica, who spent the first two years of his college career at the University of Mobile in Alabama, was named to the PDL All-League Team. The mammoth league has 73 squads and only 11 players garnered all-league honors.
"It was a great season. It was a great environment with great players and a great coach (Brendan Burke)," Brown said of his time in Pennsylvania. "The coach is a great coach. He helped me develop my scoring ability, my touch, everything."
One of the biggest benefits of the summer for Brown came when this team trained with the Philadelphia Union of the MLS one to two times per week.
"It was an experience to see how the pros train. It was a great feeling to be there training with them and to see their environment. It is a little different, but once you play soccer, it is all the same," he said.
Fortunately for UCF fans, Brown is displaying that same kind of talent with the Knights that he exhibited this summer in the PDL.
