ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's basketball team officially kicked off the 2012-13 campaign Friday with its first official preseason practice. The Knights focused on fundamentals and defense during a spirited session inside the UCF Practice Facility.

"For every college basketball player and coach, today is one of the best days of the year," UCF head coach Donnie Jones said. "I know our guys were excited to get out here and work on our goal of continuing to get better each day."

Friday gave UCF's large freshman class the opportunity experience a full college practice for the first time. The five rookies, and the rest of the Knights, have had individual workouts since the summer, but nothing as daunting as a full practice session.

The practice was the start of a busy weekend for the Knights. UCF will practice again Saturday and Sunday.

The Knights have just under a month until their Nov. 10 season opener at cross-state rival USF.
