UCF Volleyball Heads North for the SHU Hampton Inn Shelton Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF volleyball team will leave the state of Florida for the first time this season as it travels north to compete in the SHU Hampton Inn Shelton Invitational in Fairfield, Conn. The tournament, featuring Fairfield, Dartmouth and host Sacred Heart begins for the Knights (2-4) at 7 p.m., against the host Pioneers (1-6). .

UCF will return to the court Saturday afternoon with a back-to-back doubleheader to conclude the tournament against Fairfield (1-5) and Dartmouth (0-3) at 1 and 3 p.m.

Of the three opponents the Knights will battle this weekend, the Knights have only played Fairfield and dropped the only meeting between the two schools back in 2000.

UCF is looking to continue to maintain momentum after a successful showing in the Holiday Inn Select/UCF Classic. Redshirt junior Angelica Crump earned her second All-Tournament team selection of the season after smashing a team-leading 42 kills in 11 sets. Crump, an All-American honorable mention in 2011, led all players in kills, attempts and kills per set at the UCF Classic.

Joining Crump on the All-Tournament team was senior middle blocker Tory McCutcheon. McCutcheon pitched in 23 kills on a tremendous .432 attack percentage while chipping in a team-best 10 blocks. Senior libero Meredith Murphy picked up 43 digs more digs over the weekend giving her 88 on the season and 1,583 for her career. Murphy is now just 61 digs away from the all-time program record set by Miriam Metzcus.
