ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team starts the 2012-13 season with a No. 22 ranking in the Golfweek preseason rankings. The Knights' first event of the season is the Northern Intercollegiate, hosted by Northern Illinois, Saturday and Sunday.

The Knights, who won three tournaments last season, brought home top honors from the Northern Intercollegiate last season. But head coach Bryce Wallor says what happened last year is in the past.

It's a new year, so you can't defend anything, Wallor said. You don't hold the trophy. You don't play keep-away with it. You've got to go out and take it. The opportunity is there to win. Our mind-set is we're going out to get something. We're not protecting anything.

Earlier this week, the Knights held four rounds of qualifying to determine their lineup for the Northern Intercollegiate. A group of four juniors - Greg Eason, Ricardo Gouveia, Kyle Wilshire and Jose Joia - will all be competing for UCF. The fifth member of the Knights' lineup will be newcomer Michael Visacki.

We're extremely excited, Wallor said. It's so much fun to get what is an old crop of players - but a few new faces, too - in here. Every team has its own chemistry and its own characters. This is a fun team so far. We've got a lot of talent and I'm just excited about getting out there and seeing what we can do.

The Northern Intercollegiate is the first of five fall tournaments for the Knights.
