ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF head softball coach Renee Luers-Gillispie announced changes to her coaching staff Monday afternoon.
In the wake of former assistant coach Gerice Olson accepting a full-time coaching job at Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose in Minnesota, former UCF third baseman Hillary Barrow has been named assistant coach while Michelle Felix has been hired to handle all softball operational duties.
Barrow, who served as a player under Gillispie from 2007-10, will coach infielders and outfielders. A native of Miami, Fla., Barrow ranks in the top 10 in in several major offensive categories for the Knights including games started (4th), runs scored (7th), hits (9th), doubles (2nd), home runs (8th), RBIs (4th) and walks (6th).
Aside from records, Barrow was a key starter of the 2008 Conference USA Championship team and also the 2010 NCAA Tournament team. Barrow was named to the All-Tournament team in both of those seasons, proving her worth as a clutch player.
Handling the day-to-day operations on Gillispie's staff will be Felix. Felix will help monitor the academic progress of student-athletes, assist with the organization of team travel, help manage the program's budget, coordinate community service initiatives and provide support to the direction of UCF's summer and winter youth camps.
Felix is the wife of current UCF softball assistant coach Ruben Felix. The couple lives in Avalon Park and they have a son, Matthew Ripken Felix.
