TITUSVILLE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF cross country team earned its first team win of the 2012 season on Friday night with an impressive finish at the FLRunners.com Invitational at Chain of Lakes Park in Titusville. The Knights bested six other programs thanks in part to five top-10 finishers.
As the top finisher, freshman Anne-Marie Blaney won the second meet of her young career. Her time of 17:52.10 blew by the competition as she finished more than 35 seconds ahead of the runnerup.
Freshman Heather Classe earned her first top-five finish of the season with a time of 19:14.60, and sophomore Amelia Williams fell in step behind her in sixth place with a time of 19:20.50 for a new personal best.
Freshman Rachel Petrik placed ninth with her time of 19:29.70 and Titusville native Teresa Huff rounded out the Knights' top five finishers with a 10th place, season-best time of 19:29.80.
The Knights traveled all but one of their roster to the meet, and they rose to the challenge. Caroline Pauls (19:52.90), Jocelin Adona (20:04.30), Ne'Ausha Logan (20:46.10), Erica Winston (20:52.40), Ebony Rose (21:07.70) and Akeeba Rose (21:51.30) all recorded season-best times.
UCF will take a week off from competition before hosting the Black and Gold Invitational on Oct. 12 at 5 p.m. The "pink" event will serve as the regular season finale before the Knights travel to the Conference USA Championships on Oct. 29.
